"Why is there an old white guy wearing a diaper in your bed? After being "granny dumped" the night before at a Florida dog track where her father George works as a janitor, Odette has every right to ask - why indeed? A note pinned to the man's chest reads: "My name is Dee. I have dementia. I can't walk or talk. Please take care of me." Inspired by an actual event from the 1990s, The Jailer and The Thief begins as the story of George's journey to rehabilitate a total stranger — for reasons only he knows. But it is his 13-year-old daughter who discovers this interloper, now fully lucid, is actually a low-key famous musician from the 1950s. When he agrees to teach her piano to help her get accepted to her dream music academy, her initial disgust slowly dissolves into something neither of them saw coming. They form an unlikely bond — until forces beyond their control threaten to tear it apart. The Jailer and The Thief is Harold and Maude meets Little Miss Sunshine.
